A Letter from Father Henry Riffle, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel~
Catholic Schools Week 2010

Our area is blessed with a GREAT CATHOLIC SCHOOL:
BISHOP LARKIN INTERPAROCHIAL SCHOOL

Catholic Education is a key ministry in our parish faith formation and spiritual development efforts.  It is a quality school that is reflected in diocesan and state scores.

I'll share with you some of the highlights that were sent out from the diocesan school administration office.

For the ACRE (which stands for Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education) tests results for the 5th and 8th grades has been consistently HIGH.  This year (2009-10) it is OUTSTANDING as shown here:

Grade 5 in 2009 was higher in EVERY category than the diocesan average AND the national average.

Grade 8 in 2009 was also higher in EVERY category than the diocesan average AND the national average.

Our children know about God, the church, liturgy and sacraments, scripture, life in Christ, church history, prayer, Creed and morality that will make that difference for the whole of their life.  This shows that the education is CATHOLIC.

The school students at Bishop Larkin also score very high in the areas of reading, language arts and math.  In 2009 testing in these areas the students at Bishop Larkin grades 3-8, scored HIGHER in 14 out of 18 categories than the diocesan or province averages.  This shows that the education is QUALITY.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the teachers and administration of the school for a job well done.  The parents also work hard for the success of the school.  The alumni go from here to higher education with a solid base that lets them succeed in any school as they apply the lessons on knowledge and good study habits.  HARD WORK BY EVERYONE!

The priest support is essential for the celebration of the sacraments and the witness presence for other events.  The parish financial support is shared by Queen of Peace, Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Peter the Apostle.  The subsidy is given to parish families wishing to attend Bishop Larkin.  Each of these families must be registered, active and involved in their respective parishes.

The bottom line is that QUALITY does not come cheap.
QUALITY CATHOLIC EDUCATION IS PRICELESS.  Ask our kids, ask our parents, ask our teachers, ask our pastors....we have both "faith in" and "knowledge of" OUR QUALITY CATHOLIC SCHOOL!
